1. To participate in chamber music, you must register for the appropriate course number: 
   Note: Your registration will change to a different course number and/or section letter after your assignment to an ensemble has been finalized.
   57670 section Z – undergraduate and graduate brass chamber music
   57671 section Z – undergraduate and graduate string quartet chamber music
   57672 section Z – undergraduate and graduate woodwind and mixed chamber music
2. To request a particular group and/or coach for Woodwind & Mixed Chamber Music or String Quartet, you must submit a request form (see links above) by the deadline, which is announced each semester. Requests submitted after the deadline may or may not be honored. Requests from students for whom chamber music is a requirement will be prioritized; however, all the coordinators will do their best to honor as many requests as possible. 
   1. Students are encouraged to form their own groups and submit a request form.
   2. Incomplete group requests will also be accepted. If you would like to play in a certain instrumentation but cannot secure all members, submit a request with the confirmed members and the coordinators will do their best to complete your group and honor the request.
   3. You may also submit a group request form as an individual to request a certain instrumentation, coach, style, etc.
   4. Non-majors are required to audition for participation in chamber music. Please email the appropriate coordinator to arrange an audition. A recent recording may be accepted in place of a live audition in certain circumstances.
3. Trios, quartets, quintets, and larger ensembles are greatly encouraged; playing in a group of this size demands skills that take time to develop, and your student years are the best time to do this. Duets are discouraged unless they represent particularly distinctive or difficult repertoire.

The Honors Quartet Competition is under review at the present time. Please check back later for more information. It is open to all string students, but everyone must have the approval of their principal teacher. Competition requirements and repertoire this year will be announced at a later date. Please contact Professor Wu with any questions.

1. Each group must receive twelve 50-minute coachings each semester.
2. Each group should rehearse for at least two hours each week. 
3. Each group must keep a log of coachings and rehearsals. These logs must be submitted by midterm and by the end of the semester by scanning and emailing them to the appropriate Coordinator or Graduate Assistant. The purpose of these logs is not only to document rehearsals and coachings to fulfill the credit, but also to collect data for the School of Music to organize rehearsal space and room availability in future semesters. Please record the date, duration, room number, and type of meeting (rehearsal or coaching) in the log. A sample document can be found (and printed off) on the chamber music webpage; your coach should sign this, both at midterm and at the end of the course. We strongly recommend starting your log immediately and keep it up as you move through the semester (rather than trying to reconstruct your schedule at the end). 
4. Groups are encouraged to have at least half their total coaching time (300 minutes) logged by midterm. 
5. Any extended illnesses or extenuating circumstances that prevent groups from meeting must be brought to the attention of the appropriate Coordinator IMMEDIATELY. 
6. As soon as you receive your group placement for the semester, please elect one person to act as liaison with the Coordinator & GA. This liaison should send an email confirmation to the appropriate Coordinator and/or GA as soon as they schedule the first meeting with their coach.
7. Each group must perform at least once during the semester, and it is recommended that your coach be present at the performance.
